Has There Been An Increase In Bankruptcies?
Real estate broker Patrice Henderson and bankruptcy attorney Shaunay Steel from Steel Law discusses if there has been an increase in bankruptcies, how the economy is an effect of this and how it’s impacting the real estate market.
Bankruptcies both personal and business have been increasing year over year with the higher interest rates, inflation, job losses and more it’s caused for the average american to increase their debt, which has resulted in even more bankruptcy filings.
We don’t have full data for 2025 yet but it can be expected that the remainder of the year we will see a much higher increase in bankruptcy filings than we did in 2024.
This of course can greatly impact the real estate market as more homeowners will need to sell their homes even if they don’t want to and people renting may not be able to pay their rent which can also lead to investors selling more of their assets as well.
